The Life of Joseph
“Father, they were disobedient again!” Joseph enters his father Jacob’s tent. He is tired and sad. All day long he has been with his brothers by the flock of sheep. They have made sure that their father’s animals had enough grass and water. Joseph enjoys this work. But he does not enjoy being with his brothers all day, because they are never friendly to him. They are often unkind to him, especially when he does not want to join them when they commit sin, when they disobey father. His brothers then become angry with Joseph. Joseph tells his father about it at night. He comes into his father’s tent to tell him that the brothers have been disobedient again.
Father Jacob listens to everything Joseph tells him. He is also sad that his other sons do not listen. They not only sin against their father, but also against the Lord! Happily Joseph does not join them. Joseph is a son of Rachel, just like Benjamin. But Benjamin is still too small to help take care of the flocks. Jacob had two wives: Leah and Rachel. He loved Rachel most of all, but she died when Benjamin was born. Now, when Jacob sees Joseph, he always thinks of Rachel again. That’s why he loves Joseph the most. He sometimes spoils him too, and gives him more than his other sons. It is not good of father Jacob to spoil one of his children. But Joseph cannot help it…
