Joshua and the Conquering of Canaan

A solitary man stands by the tabernacle, within the curtains of the court. The priests stop their work at the altar and they look at him respectfully. The man’s hair is already gray, but his back is still straight and his eyes are still bright. His body is still strong and his voice is still powerful. Who is this man and to whom is he listening?
He is Joshua, the son of Nun. In the past he has fought in Israel’s army against the Amalekites. He has also been with Moses upon Mount Sinai. When the twelve spies were sent to Canaan, he was also among them. Ten of them had discouraged the people; they did not trust in the strength of the Lord. Yet two had said that the Lord would bring them into the Promised Land. They trusted in God. Therefore they had not died in the wilderness. All the other men older than twenty had died in the wilderness, but not Joshua and Caleb…
